Falalalala - December Doodles

 These little December Doodles CMS 355 by Tim Holtz and Stampers Anonymous are so cute aren't they? I've seen so many adorable cards made with this set!

 It comes with multiple holiday doodle stamps as well as quite a few sentiments as well. I've included just the falalalala sentiment on this card.

 The background may appear at first glance to just be white, but in fact, it has a white on white stamped embossing pattern. I stamped the Advert background and embossed it with Superfine White Embossing powder.

 To make the banners I cut 1.25' strips of Distress Watercolor paper and colored them with Distress Inks and then stamped the various December Doodles on them multiple times.

If you wanted to make multiples of this card, I would ink and stamp a whole 4.25x5.5 piece of Distress Watercolor Cardstock and then cut the strips afterward.

This is a very quick and simple card to make!

Joyful - Alcohol Ink Metallic Mixatives Meet Whimsy Decor

This summer, long before Tim Holtz introduced his new line of fantastic Metallic Kraftstock, I wanted to used the new Christmas Whimsy Decor die cuts to make a metallic Christmas card. So here is what I did.

I started by applying a single color of Alcohol Ink Metallic Mixative to one felt covered applicator. I pounced it all over a piece of Alcohol Ink Cardstock. When the Cardstock was mostly covered, I did the same thing with the next color.  I did this with (from L to R) Pearl, Gold, Copper, Gun Metal, Silver, Rose Gold)  I love how little bits of the white paper shows through.
NOTE: For this card you don't need to cut any ornament pieces from the pearl mixative paper, save it for the background, and you will need three gold and three silver to finish the card.

 

 Then I cut all the pieces of the three ornaments in Whimsy Decor from all of the colors.

Don't be intimidated by all these wonderful little pieces. I lay them all out and then glue the pieces on in order so that each ornament gets a different color. You will end up with 5 of each ornament, so you can make several cards or tags with the extras.
NOTE: For this card you need to save one set of ornament decor though for the step below.

I wanted this card to be a shaker card, so what I did is to take the pearl mixative paper, cut it out with the largest Stacked Label die, then dry emboss it with the Star Bright embossing folder.

Once that was done, I looked at where I would place two ornaments on the card and then I taped the bell shaped outer ornament on the pearl piece and cut it out.  I then backed it with a clear transparency film and attached the Decor pieces onto the window as if it was an ornament. 

Since it is a shaker, I added the foam tape to the underside of the piece for dimension and to seal the area for glitter, and then poured in a little bit of Glitter Dust before adhering it to the Gold Mixative backing 4x5 1/4, as seen below. Then I attached the entire piece to a 4 1/8x5 3/8 piece of Silver Mixative that was finally attached to a copper colored cardstock base 4.25x5.5.

 To finish it off I added a sentiment from Thin Holiday Words in metallics and cut some of the Funky Festive greenery and bow to add to the top. I did pop the copper ornament up with dimensional adhesive.

I also added a little glitter dust to the brads with some Glossy Accents just for a fun additional touch of "whimsy!"

Creativations 2018 - Tim Holtz Blog Hop and Give Away!

Welcome!! I hope you are enjoying all the marvelous creations so far! I’m thrilled to be included with this group of insanely talented artists to share a project from one of Tim Holtz’s Creativation 2018 booths. 

I am sharing a card I made from some of Tim’s new Sizzix releases. When I got the die cuts, I just started combing Pinterest for some inspiration. I have an inspiration board that I add to when I get a new stamp or die cut release. It’s a bunch of pretty eclectic images that I use for color, texture or theming inspiration. For this project I was inspired by these images from my board:

I just loved the aged, yet romantic framed mirror and the worn teal frames and felt they should be a Valentine card. 

To make this card I used the following from Sizzix Alterations:

• Stacked Baroque
• Shadow Script 1
• Tiny Tattered Florals
• Funky Florals 2
• Rosette Texture Fade

Additionally, you will need:

• Ideaology Mirrored Sheets
• Gold Metallic Kraftstock
• Ground Espresso Distress Paint
• Peacock Feathers Distress Paint
• Mushroom Alcohol Ink
• Gold Distress Spray
• White Textured Cardstock
• Distress Heavy Stock
• Picked Raspberry Distress Ink
• Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink
• Hand Sanitizer and Alcohol Ink Blending Solution

Begin by cutting the largest Stacked Baroque shape out of the Ideaology Mirrored Sheets. I cut this out on my Vagabond and it cut beautifully in one pass. Then cut the middle size from the mirrored paper as well. 

These pieces will be sticky on the back with a very good adhesive. You want to wear this adhesive away gently in some spots so it looks like an old antique mirror. 

 To do this you can use plain hand sanitizer, a plastic scraping tool, and a felt blending tool. Leave the protective film on the mirrored side. 

 Put some hand sanitizer in a small spot on the adhesive backing and gently scrape it away down to the mirror. Don’t scrape the mirrored paint. 

Now, clean the sanitizer off with water and using the alcohol ink tool with felt and Blending Solution, gently buff away the mirrored paint in that section. Repeat in several places on the piece, especially around the edges. Clean off the back with paper towels and water. This is what it will look like on the back,

 and the front.

Once you have sufficiently worn away the mirror and cleaned up, (because it will be messy but so worth it!) apply some Mushroom Alcohol Ink to a felt covered blending tool and cover the worn away places on the back. Once dry add a little of the Ground Espresso Paint over the worn places on the back as well. Let dry.

Now turn the pieces over and remove the protective film. Cover the mirror with a thin layer of Mushroom Alcohol Ink, then flick some drops of the Blending Solution onto the front of the mirrored piece so it will make little splotches like an old mirror. Set aside to dry.

To make the frame, use the largest Stacked Baroque die and the second largest. 

 

 

Using a few pieces of Design Tape, to keep them from moving, place the smaller die inside the larger one and cut a frame from a piece of gold Metallic Kraftstock. 

Then cut several more from black cardstock to add dimension. Glue the 3-4 black frames together. Run the gold frame through the Rosette texture fade and attach to the stack of black frames. 

Using a piece of blending foam on a blending tool, pounce some Ground Espresso Distress Paint onto the frame. Let it dry a little, the wipe some of it away off the raised areas so the gold will show through. Then dry.

Repeat the paint step again with Peacock Feathers Distress Paint. Let dry a little and again wipe away from raised areas. Dry.

For the assembly, I cut a cardbase from white cardstock to make a 4.25 x 5.5 inch card base. Cut a 4 x 5.25 piece of gold and cream paper from the Wallflowers paper pad. I did a simple stitch around mine on my sewing machine before attaching it. Add a piece of gold ribbon across the center. I dyed some seam binding with Gold Metallic Distress Spray. 
Adhere the large mirror to the center of the card. Add the frame. Then center the smaller mirror, and attach.

I decorated the frame with a few greenery pieces from the Funky Florals 3 die set and few roses from the Tiny Tattered Florals set. Finally attach the Shadow Script “love” cut from white cardstock and Gold Metallic Kraftstock.  I used the white kraft core cardstock from Coredinations.

And that’s it! You have a beautiful Valentine for someone you love.

Basic Grey November Page of the Month

This month found me facilitating the Basic Grey page of the month class again and I was pleasantly surprised with the bright, fun paper.  I'm still struggling with following the directions and not just doing my own thing, and I don't like drawing the sewing on. I much prefer actually sewing, therefore, on some of the pages I forego the drawn stitching and am waiting until I get the pages back to actually sew on them. Other than that, I've been enjoying my time doing the class layouts according to directions and then doing my own thing on extra pages or cards with the leftover papers and embellishments from the kit.  I have limited myself to using ONLY things in the kit, so on the extras, although I have wanted to add some of my own stash I have refrained and only used leftover scraps from the kits.
As usual, the kits come with one two-page layout (seen above) and one single page layout (seen below.)

 This is my extra page made from the scraps from the kit.  I used Sketch Savvy Sketch #155.

 And here are two cards I made this month from scraps.  I still had enough scraps to make another page or a couple more cards.

Wild!

Serendipity Scrapbooks is having an online crop this weekend. It is an old TV shows theme, so all the challenges are based around old TV shows like Star Trek, Brady Bunch, The Adams Family, etc. Every once in awhile they break in with a "commercial break" or a mini challenge that is only for 1 or 2 hours.

My friend Susan posted this commercial break for Fruit Striped Gum.

Basically, you had to make a card using a red, green, yellow, orange and pink stripe and include one animal on your card. It sounded like a fun way to use up some stuff in my stash, so here is my take on the challenge.

A Very Merry UnBirthday to YOU!

I put some of my QuicKutz to use and made this fun pull out card. I learned how to make this card several years ago when I was in Not Your Ordinary Bookclub.



It's a pop up card, so when you pull the bottom of the navy strip, the top pops up to reveal this candle with the tag that reads "Wishing you a..."


then the inside of the card finishes the sentiment with "...Happy Birthday."

Hello Friend - Basic Grey Challenge #1

Okay, unlike my last post, this is the real deal! I actually used Basic Grey paper and a Basic Grey Brad for this card so it fits the challenge.

We were to make a card using mostly Basic Grey product and we were to follow this sketch.

I used Basic Grey Eve Collection for my paper and an Eve brad in the middle of the flower.



The flower is cut from actual sewing patterns using 3 different sized scalloped circles. I attached them through the center and then crinkled them and spritzed them with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Sherbet and Scarlet. I got the idea from Annabelle at Bits and Pieces.

I also spritzed the BG pink paper with some glimmer mist so it coordinated with the flower. The BG letters, flourishes and the leaf were all covered with Ranger Crackle Glossy Accents.

How Oar You? and Happy Camper

I decided I wanted to try and do the new and improved Basic Grey Challenge. They posted this sketch for us to follow for this week. The only rules are that it needs to be a majority of BG product.



Well, somewhere between me printing off the sketch last night and waking up this morning, it took on a life of its own. I ordered a bunch of Cosmo Cricket paper a few months ago and they sent me some fun little packets of paper scraps, ribbon scraps, and a few chipboard elements. I already used the Halloween stuff in a card in an earlier post, but I had a packet left with camping stuff from their Mr. Campy line. I was baffled by this packet as I couldn't think of what kind of card you would give to someone who was going camping. And on top of it, one that uses chipboard oars. Who uses chipboard oars?

I went to bed with this sketch in mind and that packet of goodies (even though I knew it was supposed to be a Basic Grey card, I couldn't get that little packet of CC camping stuff out of my head.) Guess what? Sleeping on a problem sometimes works out! I woke up this morning with a card all worked out that I can give to anyone, anytime!

Here it is!



For the wood grain (it's hard to see in the picture) on the oars, I stamped the black chipboard with clear embossing ink, then embossed with clear embossing powder, then covered with paint and once it was partially dry, I wiped the paint off the embossed areas, leaving the paint in the areas that were raw chipboard. I learned this technique from Tim Holtz, but saw my friend Susan use it on these very same oars on a layout she did.

Now, I have to go back to my room and make a Basic Grey card to fit the challenge so I'm in the running to win some prizes.
