Sweet Treat Display Dome

If you are looking for a fairly simple and fun Halloween decor piece?  This sweet little treat might be right up your alley. I made this display dome as a sample project for the 2021 Tim Holtz Halloween Idea-ology release.

This is a short video explaining how I made this little project.
I started by painting the cork base of the dome and an urn with Black Soot Distress Paint. You could also at this time hollow out the cork bottom of the dome just enough to fit the Tiny Lights, and paint the light battery pack black too.

Once the urn and cork are dry, cover the urn and the top of the cork base with Collage Medium and Nightfall Black Distress Glitter (or if you don't have some, make your own with Rock Candy Distress Glitter and Black Alcohol Ink)
Spray a medium size Woodland Tree with Jack-o-lantern Mica Spray Stain, (or if you don't have any, try Crackling Campfire Spray Stain)
It should cover it pretty well.
Once the tree is dry, put some Glossy Accents on your finger and brush it on the tips of the tree needles, then quickly roll it in some of the Nightfall Glitter.

While the Glossy Accents and Glitter are dry, color the lights and wires on the Tiny Lights with Ember Alcohol Ink. Then Here comes the difficult part. I drilled a hole through the bottom of the cork and the urn, but that was a little insane. I would skip drilling through the urn and justthread the lights through the hole in the cork, then hot glue the tree into the urn and add the lights to the tree leasing a little bit of wire to glue tightly to the urn and paint that part black, and add more glittler over it. Then adhere the urn to the cork. You need to arrange the other bits before you adhere it though to make sure it fits under the dome.

Next, color the Confections with Alcohol Ink, I used Lettuce, Ember and Purple Twilight. I also colored some Distress Rock Candy Glitter with Ember Alcohol Ink and then covered two small Pumpkins with Glossy Accents and finished them off by rolling them in the Ember Glitter so they looked sugared.
Before I finished with the inside, I needed to make some rock candy. I put Glossy Accents on the end of some toothpicks and then rolled that end in Midnight Mica Flakes (if you don't have any, color Mica Flakes with black alcohol ink)
Attach the Confections sticks and rock candy sticks in the Jack-o-lantern, then adhere the two small pumpkins, Jack-o-lantern and confections on the top of the cork. Use the Jack-o-Lantern to coverthe wire and area where the Tiny Lights are coming through.

Use double sided tape to attach the orange Velvet Trim from the Warm Velvet Trims set. Color the quote from teh Quote Seal with Cracklin Campfire Distress Crayon and wipe off the excess. Adhere the Quote Seal to the center front of the Glass Dome.

Lastly, attach the dome with Collage medium hidden under the Velvet. Once everything has dried over night, attach the remaining wire and battery pack from the Tiny Lights into the hollowed out space below the dome. If you choose not to do this and just leave the pack hanging out the back, that is fine too. You can easily hide it among other decorations.
