Doodle Art Night Light

Isn't this Doodle Art die cut so lovely? It's one of the new releases from Tim Holtz and Sizzix. I wanted to make a project that really let its beauty show so I made this panel art night light.
You start off with a metal Idea-ology Flip Frame. I have several of these in my stash and just haven't made a flip book with them, so I was really excited when this idea actually worked because I can make one for every season! LOL!
Attach the base and remove the rings since you won't be using it as a flip frame. Cut four thin 1/4" pieces of chipboard. Using collage medium you want to adhere them to the inside of the frame.
It is important to leave a lip all around the front edge of the frame and the chipboard can be flush along the back edge as you see above.
Adhere a large sheet of Sizzix Permanent Adhesive to the back of a piece of silver metallic kraftstock. Then cut out the Doodle Art. Try to place it in the corner of the paper so that there is an even edge on two sides. Then cut the other two sides of the piece making two more thin border edges.
With the remaining piece of silver kraftstock, cut one of the small 3D Lattice Impresslits and adhere it around the base of the frame to add a little interest.
In order to make the lattice and the doodle art match the frame, rub some Black Soot Distress Paint all over the base of the frame and the metallic die cut paper.
Then lightly rub it off with a clean cloth.
Do this slowly and lightly so that it gets into the crevices and creases and so that they booth look distressed like the decor around the frame.
Take one piece of translucent Yupo. It needs to be translucent so that the light will show through it. I also chose Yupo because it is heavy and helps give some sturdiness to the front of the panel.
Pick a few colors of alcohol ink and color the piece of Yupo. I chose some bright colors as I wanted this to be happy and fun.
Now it's time to make the panel. Peel the adhesive off the back of the silver Doodle Art piece and adhere it to the Yupo background.
Then trim off the excess Yupo.
This is the back side of the frame but for some reason I didn't take a picture of the front of the frame as I did this step so imagine this is turned around. Put some collage medium all along the front inside edge of the frame. Carefully press the art panel into the Collage Medium. Gently keep pressing it onto the chipboard edges all the way around as it dries until it is flat and mostly dry.
Add some dimensional adhesive in all the corners and in the middle of each of the sides. This will be used later. From this perspective you can see how the chipboard gives the front panel something to adhere to and also leaves a gap where the Tiny Lights will go.
Cut a second piece of silver kraftstock the size of the inside of the frame. Then cut a piece of the Black Metallic Kraftstock the size of the outside of the frame. Adhere the silver paper to a piece of thin chipboard and attach it to the middle of the kraftside of the Black Metallic paper.
Poke a hole in the bottom corner that is big enough for the tiny lights to thread through. Thread the lights in from the back, leaving the battery pack outside and attach the lights to the silver paper winding them back and forth from the bottom to the top.  I attached them with some double sided Scor-tape and just didn't peel the non-stick off. That is some strong adhesive.
Then I removed the nonstick from the dimensional adhesives, added glue around the outside and inside back edges of the frame and then did the same thing I did on the front. I carefully continued to press the paper into the Collage Medium until it stayed. I adhered the battery pack on the back with pop dots or you can make a tiny box to hold it.
Here is what the panel looks like when it is lit. It's really so much fun!
But the nice thing about this art panel is that it can sit on a desk or book case or counter and look pretty even when the lights aren't turned on.

I hope this gives you a new idea for the Idea-ology Flip Frame and the lovely new Doodle Art die cut.
