Trick or Treat

 I decided to make a few more fun projects for friends for Halloween.  These little frames can go in the bathroom next to some fall smelling soap just for a fun. silly decoration.

I used DCWV Midnight Spell paper and cut the title and the Trick or Treaters from a Tim Holtz die.  Fun and Easy!

Space Mountain

This is an old layout that I finally finished using Cosmo Cricket's Cogsmo paper, blackboard and die cut paper. I enjoyed working on this layout because the paper and chipboard shapes were so fun!

Not much to say about this one -- No techniques or anything.  Other than the Cogsmo stuff, the title is Lifestyle Crafts Zelda Grand, and the little Mickey heads are EK Success stickers, as is the little wrench.  It's from an old EK Success Disney set.

Fun Halloween Gifts

 I got some DCWV paper called Midnight Spell, and wanted to do something fun with the bright, glittery papers in it.  I have two friends who just moved into new homes, so I thought it would be fun to make them a Happy Halloween picture for their entry way.   In addition to the glittery paper from DCWV, I added some solid glitter paper from Bo Bunny and I think DCWV as well.

 The die cuts are from Tim Holtz and Lifestyle Crafts.  For the Candelabra, I added some Liquid Pearls to make them shimmery and like they had melted.

 I also found these fun Jack-o-lantern soap dispensers at Bath and Bodyworks and though it would be fun to add a small picture frame with a light-hearted message for their guest bathroom.

For this frame, I stamped the Happy Halloween from a Tim Holtz stamp, and embossed it with Ranger fine embossing powder.  I did the same with the bats and then cut them out.  The pumpkin is also a Tim Holtz die.    The black and green papers were cut from the centers of some of the papers in the stack.  I can still used the decorative edges of the papers as back grounds for layouts.  The striped paper, purple swirl and purple paper I stamped the bats on, were all from the border sheet in the stack.

This was a really simple project with no real techniques, other than for me -- using the bright colors.  That takes a real gift that I have yet to truly master, but I enjoyed playing!

Faux Shopping at Cristal d' Orleans

 This layout is about a Girls day at Disneyland in February of 2010.  It was a quiet day and we were wandering around listening to the Bootstrappers, riding Pirates and the Haunted Mansion, and then as we were passing through New Orleans Square along Royal Street, we were approached by a plaid and asked if we would pose for some pictures and video as if we were shopping in Cristal d' Orleans.  We had never been in the shop, so we agreed and wandered around acting like we were interested in all the glass stuff.  Then we had to sign some papers giving them permission to use our pictures.  I took a couple of the experience myself and we had a good laugh about it.  We have no idea if they actually used them or not, but we chalked it up to another fun experience in our favorite place.

 This layout was done for Disney Scrappers Challenge #28 - Shopping, and the October Creating on a Whim Challenge.  I used Sketch #98 from Sketch Savvy.

 The Creating on a Whim Challenge included using several things from a list on my layout - I included the following things: pop dots, fabric, chipboard, and journaling around the page.

      Because the shop had a lot of crystal glasses, figurines, etc, I tried to use shiny, crystally things on this page.
     To make the title, I cut the letters out of Lifestyle Crafts' Aluminum Chipboard, then put a thick layer of Glossy Accents on each letter so that they would look like crystal letters. The background shape was made by attaching the fabric to some chipboard and cutting it out on a Tim Holtz Sizzix Die Styled Labels Die.

     The paper I used was fabric paper by Die Cuts with a View.  It is a little tough to work with.  It is adhesive and is on paper that you can peel off, but I left most of it on the paper because the fabric is so thin that when you remove it, it tends to get mishapen and this doesn't work when you are using large pieces.
     The adhesive also made it difficult to sew on.  My needle would get gummed up fairly quickly, so I had to keep a Q-tip and Undu by my machine and clean the needle quite often!
     There were no embellishments with this stack (I don't think DCWV makes embellishments?) so I made my own.  I enlarged the floral shape from one of the papers on my printer and then attached the plain fabric to chipboard and hand cut the shapes, inked the edges and attached them together.  I added some tiny rhinestones to tie them in with the banners I made the same way.
      I liked the texture and softness the fabric gives the layout, but it was a bugger to work with.

Tow Mater Tag

 

On the Disney Scrappers Forum we had an incentive for the member who finished the most layouts that fit our Disney Challenges from January1, 2012 until July 1, 2012.   The winner was chosen and the three moderators of the site (which includes me) promised that we would make a tag or twinchie or atc that was Disney related and send it to the winner.  This is my tag!

The background is a black chipboard tag and atlas tag that I cut using the Tim Holtz Tag and Bookplate Die.  Then I stamped the background paper and the Route 66 using Tim Holtz Road Trip Stamp Set.
The Mater I cut out using my Cars Cricut Cartridge.  The washers, brads, vintage pin and letters are also all from Tim Holtz's Ideaology line.

I enjoyed working on this tag and wish I had made one for myself while I was at it!

Pooh Bear and Eeyore Save the Day!

I have scrapped some photos from this Disney memory before, but I added some new ones on this layout.     What happened is that I had a Disney Scrapbook club at my LSS, and so some of us decided to take a trip to Disneyland together.  Two of the girls had little ones.  One of them, H had been taking her daughter since she was born, but it was the first time for T and her son.   The day started off just great with the Tiki Room and the Jungle Cruise.  Then, we went on Pirates, not having any idea that it would completely and utterly terrify poor T's son.  We quickly tried to regroup and headed to Critter Country for a little time with Pooh and Eeyore, which greatly helped the situation.  Unfortunately we had done a number on the kid as far as dark rides go for quite some time.  I'm happy to say that he did grow out of it eventually and came to enjoy Disneyland immensely before they had to move out of state.  So at least we didn't scar him for life.

Ta daaaaaaaaaaaa!  I actually got out my Cricut CARTIDGES and cut some things out!!  I can't tell you the last time I actually used a cartridge. And if the truth be told, it actually wasn't all that bad once I figured out how to get it to cut all the parts again.  There was a slight re-learning curve and I ruined several pieces of cardstock, but I was victorious in the end!!

I kept this side fairly simple, but had fun using the stickers and my Mickey punches for the journaling block.

The View from Pooh Corner

If you have ever spent much time in Critter Country in the far back corner of Disneyland, you know how many really cute details they have added since they took out our beloved Country Bears and put in the Pooh ride.  Don't get me wrong, I love the Pooh ride, but not as a replacement for the bears.  I wish they could have worked something out so that we could have had both. Regardless, the little details are again what make trips to Disney so delightful.

I got some of Pink Paislee's Prairie Hill paper and since it had clouds, I was inspired to use this sketch #79  from Sketch Savvy.  

I kind of followed the sketch, but made it fit the papers and things that I had.  I felt like the kites and clouds were just perfect for these pictures.

And I couldn't help throwing in a few Hidden Mickey clouds too!

This was a fun, simple layout and I enjoyed using some paper that I wasn't particularly sure about at first.

Duck Tales

 On our last trip to Disneyland a few weeks ago, the ducks were out in force!  And there were a lot of ducklings running around too.  They are so funny the way they really aren't bothered by all the people.  Sometimes they are so blatantly careless that the mamas take the ducklings out into the central hub to go popcorn hunting and are in danger of either being trampled by people and horses, or run over by one of the vehicles, so the Disneyland Security assigns a duck patrol to follow the around with umbrellas and make them get out of the way when danger is near.

 I stretched this one-page sketch into a two-pager for all my duck pictures.  

This is from Sketch #70 from Sketch Savvy.

 I love the mama duck in the main photo on this page.  She had her little brood up on the banks of the Jungle Cruise and she had some things to say to us as we passed.  I caught her in mid quack.  And the ducks just sit wherever they want.  The top photo on the side is from the Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer's Island where they are sitting on the sunken ship, and the duck butt is was taken from the deck of the Mark Twain near New Orleans Square.

 This side has one of the ducks sleeping on the back of a moose along the Rivers of America, and from the poo running down the moose, you can tell that he sleeps there a lot.  The bottom picture is of a momma duck and her brood swimming in the upper pool in Pixie Hollow.

 The papers I used on this layout were from Scrap Within Reach, and I made my own flower jpg. to use as a cutting file so they matched the flowers in the paper. You are welcome to download it for your own personal use.

Treehouse with a View

This layout is for Disney Scrappers Special Diamond Jubilee Challenge.  We made a challenge to do a British themed Disney layout.  We really don't have much at Disneyland that we can draw from, so I decided to use the view from Tarzan's Treehouse with the Union Jack flying and to use a Merchant-Ivory film title as an inspiration.

All of these pictures were taken from the top level of the treehouse.  It really is a spectacular view of Disneyland!  Next time you're there, stop for a moment and take a few pictures.

 For this layout, I used Sketch #14 from Sketch Savvy.

 I ended up doing a lot of sewing on these pages.  I wasn't planning that at first, but I like it and I had fun!  The greenery is also from Sketch Savvy and the flowers are Prima.  The buttons I got from a yard sale.

 I added a few Hidden Mickey's and some hand sewing on each page as well with twine.  The challenge actually had and additional challenge which was to add a rhinestone to represent the diamond jubilee, but that just didn't fit with the rustic feel of this layout.

The paper I used is from Scrap Within Reach.  I don't believe they are still in business unfortunately.

You Got Me a Rock?

I did this layout for the Disney Scrappers Challenge #10 - Did you Know? Disney Trivia.  I decided to make a layout focused on something that has been in the park since at least 1957, but is usually overlooked.
In the summer of 1956, on a trip through Colorado, Walt stopped off at a tourist trap called Pike's Petrified Forest.  He found this petrified stump there, purchased it and had the owner dig it out, pack it up and bring it out to Disneyland.  There are a couple of versions of this story, one says Walt had it delivered to their Holmby Hills home only to have Lillian donate it to the park a year later.  But a letter from Walt to the owner indicates that he did have it delivered directly to Disneyland.  Perhaps it took a year for the actual spot to be prepared, and the tree to be delivered before they could dedicate it.
 It is rumored that Walt joked with Lillian when he got back in the car and told her that he had just bought her a petrified tree for their upcoming 31st anniversary.   Whether he really did that or not, he certainly did give her credit for donating the tree to Disneyland. I kind of took some liberties with the title, but I can imagine Lillian saying something like this to Walt.  I'm sure she had a great sense of humor!

it's a big joke between them!  That's why I had to put it on my layout!

Mickey's Trick or Treat at Disneyland

I had so much fun designing this mini book!  From the minute I saw it, I fell in love with this Authentique Glowing Halloween paper and I knew I just had to make a mini book to hold the pictures from our 2011 trip to Disneyland for Mickey's Trick or Treat Party.

 On the cover I used several Tim Holtz dies and the flower is one I made by melting organza and the black leaves are melted polyester fabric.  The vines are black pipe cleaners.

 For the inside, I traced a Cosmo Cricket chipboard album that I had and made a burlap page.

 I also found a mini pumpkin die cut shape and added that in the middle.  The pictures of Chip, Dale and Donald are from the Piratepalooza - a pirate themed "disco" area where you could dance to 70's disco songs with the characters.  It was a hoot!  One of my favorite parts of the entire evening!

 This is the back of the pumpkin and a picture in front of the Haunted Mansion.  One of the elements that came with the paper was this Top 10, so I listed our 10 favorite things about a Disney Halloween.

 I had to dig deep to get up enough courage for a picture with Jack Sparrow.  He's always a little freaky!  And we found some Stormtroopers in Tomorrowland.

 Our hosts, Mickey and Minnie were found back along Big Thunder Trail, and look who wanted to hitch a ride home with us!

 Jack Skellington was hanging out in New Orleans Square and the Castle looked dark and creepy! This page I made from black canvas instead of burlap to change things up a little.

Pirate carcasses were in great supply all night long, and we took our annual anniversary picture in front of the Mickey O'Lantern this year instead of on Splash Mountain.  We are holding up 14!

I left the back really simple.  Just a die cut of Tim Holtz's Candelabra.

This was such an incredibly fun project!  I had the glitter paint, stickles, buttons, organza, pipe cleaners, die cuts, and any and everything I could think of out on my desk as I was making this.  This Glowing line is a classic, amazing Halloween line!  I LOVE it!  Please don't retire it Authentique!  It can be used year after year.

July 4th at Disneyland

We love to go to Disneyland on July 4th and stay until the next day.  We stay over mainly because it is absolute chaos and gridlock trying to get out of the parking structure and home after the fireworks.  So much easier just to wait until the crowd thins out and then walk back to a our hotel.  These are pictures of our first 4th of July and Disneyland back in 2008.

Here is a video of the Independence Day fireworks. They have the same show every year and it's an okay show, but could be so, so much better!  I'll let you watch it for yourself and see if you agree.  I have already written Disneyland and made suggestions, but I think it is easier for them not to have to change it than to improve it and make it more patriotic.
