Hello friends! Over the next few weeks I will start sharing some of the samples I created this summer for Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations Halloween 2018 dies. These are limited edition dies just for this season so be sure and pick them up before they are gone.
This spooky card (4.25x5.5 inches) was made using the Ghoulish die set. It is made up of three classic Halloween ghouls and some bats. I added the new Halloween 2 Mixed Media set in the background. For the title I used the new Alphanumeric Cutout Lowercase alpha. It is a great size for cards.
This is how I made the background for this card.
As I mentioned in the video above, this nonstick mat portion of your glass mat is important when doing this Distress Oxide technique.
If you apply the Distress Oxides to the Glass Media Mat, when you spritz them with water, they immediately start to run together and the colors mix causing a lot of brown or muddied areas. You can see on the right that the colors stay put and allow a better oportunity for layering color instead of just a muddy mess.
Above you see the colors on Alcohol Ink Cardstock (NOT Yupo) after one application and you can see the mixing is minimal on the mat below.
Once you have sufficiently layered the colors and dried them, you will see that the oxides makes a flat layer of white oxide on top of the once glossy Alcohol Ink Cardstock. To reveal it, you add a tiny bit of Distress Micro Glaze to a clean Blending Foam and then work it into the foam. Apply it to the top of the cardstock over the Distress Oxide. Then buff it off with a clean cloth.
You will be quite surprised to see how vibrant the Oxide Colors show through. This step not only returns the shine to the glossy surface, but also makes the background water resistant. You can now die cut it or stamp in it with Archival Ink.
The frame is from the Stacked Postage dies set. I cut out the stacked postage piece, then centered a Stitched Rectangle die that fit just inside the postage cut.
When I ran it through the Vagabond 2, it made a very thin frame. Just the perfect little bit of detail around the focal piece.
The background paper was made by applying Distress Oxide to Alcohol Ink Cardstock. Once dry you apply some Distress Microglaze over the top to make is shine. It's such a fun technique!
The paper for the vampire, bats and title is Distress Mixed Media Cardstock colored with Distress Oxides in Hickory Smoke with a little Black Soot.
The fasteners are Ideaology Ring Fasteners.
The last bit was to sew around the edges of the card.
I count it a privilege to get to design samples with Tim Holtz's new stamp releases. It amazes me the creativity from each of the designers and how with the same stamps there are such a variety of styles and ideas. It's a great process to get to be a part of.
I'm sharing one of my samples today that makes me giggle. It was such a fun card to work on and I was able to use all the images for an entire stamp set on it too! LOL!
To make this card, the main stamp set I used was the Zombies CMS350 set. The fence is made by stamping the Planks CMS344 stamp and then cutting it apart and attaching the planks like a fence. The tree branch in the background is from the Mr. Bones CMS345 set.
I stamped and watercolored each zombie image and then cut them out by hand. I ink around the edges with my Distress Markers because that allows me to get into all the little nooks and crannies.
I figured some zombies don't have bodies so this guy is just a zombie head on the ground.
For the sentiment, I stamped two of the hands coming out of the ground and then cut them out. I cut around the finger tips and slid the sentiment under them so the hands are holding the sign. This zombie has two left hands. LOL!
That's it. This was a fun, silly zombie card just to bring a smile to your face. Have fun with this stamp set -- there's so much you can do with it.
This is the last of the Christmas in June samples I made this month. For this project I wanted a rustic bunch of greenery and pinecones to be the focal point, so I put them on a medium Etcetera tag and again kept it fairly simple so the focus was on the spray.

To make the background I cut a bunch of the Paper Snowflakes out of kraft paper.
I laid them out on the tag to see how I wanted them to look.
Then I attached them onto the tag with Distress Collage Medium.
Once dry I trimmed the bits that were hanging off the edge and then sanded all the edges.
Next I painted over the entire surface of the tag with Picket Fence Distress Paint.
Once it was dry I went over the entire thing with the Ideaology Sanding Block and carefully sanded away the paint from the edges of the tag and the raised edges of the snowflakes. I wanted this to look like I had embossed the tag and then paint had worn away from some of the areas. I really like how it turned out and didn't want to cover the whole thing, so when I added the greenery and sentiment I tried to leave some areas where the background could be seen.

Today marks the halfway point of the year and only 6 more months until Christmas!

This Christmas card was a lot of fun to make. I pulled out several dies from my stash to pair with some of the newer ones.
For this card, other than the Ideaology 2017 Christmas paper on the
cup, the rest of the paper is Distress Specialty Stamping Paper. To make this card I used the following dies and stamps from Tim Holtz, Stampers Anonymous, and Sizzix Alterations: Swirly Snowflakes stamps and framelits Tea Time Lace Simple Snowflakes Texture Fade Stacked Label

Stamping Paper for this technique because I wanted the background white

For the snowflakes I like to put the darkest color in the center and then the lighter colors around it in kind of a bullseye shape.
Once you get the ink on the felt, I smush it in with an old gift card or scraper to push the ink into the felt. Then you can stamp with it like any other stamp pad.
Once stamped, I cut them all out with the matching Framelits dies from Sizzix. To keep the framelits in place and make sure they don't shift when I'm cutting them, I hold them in place with some low tack tape. Here I used some old washi tape I got at a crop. I don't like to waste my good Tim Holtz design tape on this step!
I love these snowflakes. They’re so pretty.
Look at the detail in the stamps and how perfectly the framelits cut them! They are just so beautiful I like to stare at them. LOL!
I can't decide which one is my favorite!

Another simple Christmas card I made a couple of weeks ago.
This
one was inspired by Disneyland’s Viva Navidad Celebration at Christmas
time. It’s one of my favorite parts of the holidays at Disneyland. What a
bright, joyful, merry holiday celebration it is. So that was the
feeling I tried to express here.
