Family Layout and Mini Book

That's it for the design team Halloween projects.  I was also given some pieces from the Legacy collection by Simple Stories.

This layout is an old photo of my dad's family.  I'm not sure how old, but I can say probably about 30 years old.  The pictures are in my grandparent's front yard and Grandma is in the top center photograph.  My dad is in the blue shirt and the others are his siblings.
This layout was based on a layout from Creatively Savvy.

Most of the lines from Simple Stores have lots of journaling cards and pieces for pocket scrapbooking.  While I have the utmost respect for those who can do pocket scrapbooking and keep up with it, it isn't the kind of scrapbooking I do. So I used many of the backgrounds and odds and ends from some of the little cards to make my layout.

This is a sticker from the collection, I made two flags from bits of the journaling squares, and the wooden hearts are from Studio Calico.
The title is cut from one of the journaling squares. I used one of the left over pieces to make one of the flags above. Again, the wooden hearts are from Studio Calico.
I like this background paper. It has games, handwritten ledgers, and the cookbook label on it.  I picked that portion because Grandma always loved to play games, especially Yahtzee and Parchesi.  She was a great cook. I got many of her recipes. As the lunch lady at the elementary school, (back when they actually used to cook the food) she had to keep ledgers upon ledgers.  I remember watching her work on the books everyday after school.  She had very neat writing and she was very methodical about it.

I also made a mini book out of #8 tags. I used Tim Holtz stencils and Ruler Binding to make the book and then just added a bunch of the little bits and pieces I had left from this paper.
This is a picture of the cover and a few of the pages.

Happy Haunts

My last Halloween design team project was to do a 12x12 layout with the My Mind's Eye Frightful collection.

I chose to scrap two pictures from last years's Mickey's Trick or Treat Halloween Party at Disneyland.  We found Minnie the Candy Corn Queen and Zorro Mickey in their Halloween costumes back in Toon Town.

I used Sketch Savvy Sketch #121 for this layout.

The title font is Tim Holtz Spooktacular.

The pointy edge and the pointy shape below are from the Tim Holtz Snowflake Rosette Die.  The border is actually just the left over piece from the rosette I cut and used on the treat bags from yesterday.  And because I knew the middle of the rosette would be covered, I didn't put this cute pointy snowflake center on it.  It looks much better on this page instead of all covered up.

And both strips of paper, the b&w stripe and the jack o lanterns are the pieces on the bottom of the 12x12 paper that shows you what is on the back side of the cardstock.

LESSON: Don't throw things away until you are certain you won't need to use them.

Fan-tasche-tic Halloween Projects

At the Craft Envy Halloween Crop last week, I had several design team projects to make, so I donned my moustached and prepared to have a "fan-tasche-tic" time creating!
The paper I was given to design with was a great line I had already purchased to make a Disney Halloween Mini Book.  It is called Frightful by My Mind's Eye
We were all given pumpkins to decorate, so I tried to make mine look like one of the pumpkins in the collection.  I also used the mustache from one of the 8x10 prints and the banner is made using a Tim Holtz Ribbon Flags die. After I took this picture I found some black and white striped straws and I used those to cover the sticks holding the banner.  It was much cuter!

Then it was on to treat bags.  These little bags are made with the Tim Holtz In the Bag Die. Then to decorate it I used the Tim Holtz Snowflake Rosette Die.  The top edge is the smaller rosette die that I used as a border instead of making it into a rosette.  I used it around the Be Scary chipboard as well.

I really love how the snowflake rosettes look for Halloween!  Not snowflakey at all.
Lastly, I made two cards using the Tim Holtz Headstone Die.  I folded the cardstock and then placed it just inside the top of the headstone to create the two-sided card. Then I used the different embellishments from the collection to decorate them.
The fronts of the cards are on the left and the insides are on the right.
This card has some glitter bats cut from glitter cardstock using the
Tim Holtz Sizzlets Halloween Die. The glitter curls coming from under the chipboard
is a glitter mustache cut in half. Rusty Hinge Distress Stickles were added.
The inside has more mustache paper and a die cut.  This paper made for a fun card!
Again I added the bats, but I also added the Tim Holtz Bats and Crossbones Die along the bottom.  The orange and black twine is Tim Holtz Ideaology Paper String Stripes Twine.
That's it for the fun, extras I made with the collection.  I really enjoyed spending the day creating with this frightful line of papers.

Thoughts on Heaven - Mini Tag Book

As I have said, I had a LOT of left over paper and embellishments with the Bo Bunny Madeleine collection.  So I decided to make a little tag book.
Once I gathered all the leftovers I realized it was going to be beautiful!  So I thought about what photos I wanted to put in it.  The more I thought, the more I felt strongly that this should be a little faith journal.  I haven't done any faith journaling, so this was my first attempt at it.
I had all of these frames left over, so I started out cutting them out, which took me through a couple of old episodes of "Castle."  Then I use Ranger Texture Paste and the Tim Holtz Gothic layering stencil, to add this raised pattern to the front of the tags, and I LOVE IT!
Once the texture paste was dry I went over all the tags with Antique Linen Distress Stain.  Then I added a little color on each tag with Wild Honey Distress Ink and Victorian Velvet Distress Ink and went around the outside edge of each tag with Pumice Stone Distress Ink.
I adore the tags.  Absolutely love how they turned out.  I think they are so beautiful! This is by far my favorite stencil of all of Tim's designs.
My next step was to make the covers.  I cut extra pink paper out with the Tim Holtz Tag and Bookplate Die, then added some fussy cut birds and stickers from the paper pack as well as a Prima flower and Prima Say It In Pearls.
My inspiration for this book is chronicled here.  After my sister died, I started studying Heaven and it was so incredibly comforting! I even made a Heaven board on Pinterest and started putting things in there like quotes, Bible verses, verses from hymns etc.  So I went through that and pulled some that I really loved and put them in here.
I chose to use my own handwriting on the pages with frames,
because this is a very personal mini book for me and I wanted it to feel personal.

The back sides of all of the tags have left over patterned paper from the Bo Bunny collection, and have some of the quotes and things that I pinned into my Pinterest board. They don't all match perfectly, but if you read them, and take in their meaning as a whole, the mini book flows together beautifully.

This was a last minute project in an attempt to use up the rest of the paper I was given in the collection. I was so surprised when it was done that I loved it so much.  It is small, but it is full of meaning and blesses my heart.

Create Banner

I made this banner with leftover supplies from the Bo Bunny Madeleine line.  There is a LOT that goes with that line.  I got four (4) projects out of it and still had some left over for cards or tags.
I just got this banner die set from Pebbles Jen Hadfield Home + Made, so of course I had to put it to good use right? I also used the Tim Holtz stencil and circle die.

The cute bows between each banner are Margie Romney-Aslett junk bows.  You use paper, trims and ribbons and tie them together to make little junk bows to adorn things.  I love them!!
